An empirical model of the impact of solar flares of various classes on the state and dynamics of the lower ionosphere

   The main goal of this project is to develop principles, create a methodology and conduct comprehensive studies of the dynamics of the lower ionosphere during solar flares of various classes using the amplitude-phase characteristics of the ELF/VLF signals recorded at the Mikhnevo Geophysical Observatory of the IDG RAS. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to solve the following tasks:

• Receipt, collection and systematization of experimental data on variations in the amplitude and phase of the signals of VLF radio stations located in different regions of the globe, recorded in the SFO "Mikhnevo";

• Modernization and optimization of the server for collecting and processing measurement data at the IDG RAS for the purposes of the project;

• Carrying out theoretical studies and developing methods for reconstructing the electron density profile in the lower ionosphere from the amplitude-phase characteristics of VLF signals;

• Creation of an empirical model of the influence of solar flares on the state and dynamics of the D region of the ionosphere;

• Development of approaches to organizing a monitoring system for the state of the lower ionosphere in the territory of the Russian Federation with the participation of the PGI, IKFIA, ISZF, IKIR, NIRFI, IPE, GC RAS observatories and other organizations that have the appropriate technical capabilities, and the creation of a methodological apparatus for processing and analyzing network measurement data parameters of ELF/VLF radio signals from world transmitting centers and lightning discharges.
